Summary:

  • Encouragement and instructions to Philemon and their home church (especially concerning Onesimus, Philemons slave-turned-Christian-during-Paul’s-imprisonment)

Insights:

  • 1:6 – the home church expected and encouraged to share their faith
  • 1:8 – Paul does not use his inherent authority to compel others
  • The whole incident with Onesimus and Paul is the epitome of what the world calls “luck”…yet Paul never attributes it to luck
