Summary:

  • Thessalonian church is progressing well, but Paul wants to urge them even further – especially in purity, love, and eschatology.

Insights:

  • 1:4-5 – where the Spirit is clearly operating is a sign that God wants to do something with those people
  • 2:4 – we speak the gospel to others, ultimately for God (not them)
  • 2 – both women and man / mother and father reveal God together
  • 2:18 – Satan can hinder even Spirit-filled apostles
  • 3:2-3 – when afflictions happen for the faith it is prudent to give special teaching and encouragement to those people
  • 4-5 – we continue to see Paul’s themes of prayer and unity
  • 5:27 – we are strongly charged to make sure the church hears (and, by implication, understands) this letter (and, by implication, all of the Bible)
