Romans – 12/22/17 Reflections

Summary:

Paul clarifies the gospel for the Roman church:

  • All deserve God’s wrath (Jew and Gentile)
  • Only repenting and believing Christ as substitute removes God’s wrath from us.
  • To those who repent/believe, their life should conform to Christ by the Holy Spirit within them.
    • Suffering is essential to this process.
  • God’s people = all Jews and Gentiles who follow Christ.
  • Sacrifices God desires = His church obeying and imitating Christ.

Insights:

  1. Romans 2:6-11 (when compared with Romans 3) shows that all are guilty.
  2. Paul (here) focuses on teaching the gospel to professing Christians

What God is calling me to obey:

  1. Teach/clarify the gospel for believers.
  2. Use the law to expose our guilt.
