I believe many Christians (myself included) worship at the altar of self. We think we’re the center of the universe and God should really revolve around us. And when He doesn’t do things how we want, we question, doubt, or leave Him. Or if the Bible doesn’t say things we like to hear, we change the meaning or look for people who are smart enough to show us why it REALLY says something different.

With that intro in mind, I was struck at how Jesus-centered the Bible is this morning. And how Jesus doesn’t cater to people the way we might think He should.

Specifically, I was reading Mark 6:45-52. Here are the highlights:

  • Jesus made them go without him, against the wind
  • Jesus saw their struggle but did nothing
  • Jesus actually walked on water and meant to pass by them
  • only when they “cried out” in fear did he come near

Now saying all this, it doesn’t mean Jesus doesn’t care. For we also see that:

  • He comforted them
  • His presence made the wind stop

But notice those things we wouldn’t dare to do or imagine God doing – Jesus did (see above).

He’s searching for a people who will actually worship Him, not themselves. Will you join me in trying to be that people?
