The Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16) is a remarkable picture and foreshadowing of the gospel!
When we wanted to act it out and talk through it with our family, this is what we used.
Scene 1: Read Leviticus 10:1-2
Characters:
- Nadab (son of Aaron)
- Abihu (son of Aaron)
- God
Prep:
- Tennis racquets (censors)
- Fire and Incense (clothing)
Actions:
- Sons put clothing on tennis racquet
- Bring to God, but He refuses
Scene 2: Read Lev. 16:1 / Paraphrase Rest of Leviticus 16
Characters:
- God (same as before)
- Aaron (High Priest)
- Man to take goat in wilderness
- Man to burn animal remains
- Congregation
Prep:
- In playroom: Robe, Jacket, Belt, Hat
- In living room: 4 stuffed animals: bull, ram, male goat 1, male goat 2
Actions:
- Aaron cleans off in bathtub
- Puts on robe, jacket, belt, hat
- Gets 1 bull from living room and offers it
- Goes to people in living room to get 2 male goats + 1 ram
- Takes 2 goats in kitchen; flip coin to decide which to kill
- Puts incense in “holy of holies”
- Takes blood of ram before holy of holies
- Takes blood of goat before holy of holies
- Puts blood on altar (oven?)
- Takes live goat and confesses sins (in living room)
- Man takes goat to end of the hall and puts it in the closet
- Aaron and man take bath in bathtub
- Man takes bull and goat on front porch, then takes bath in bathtub
- Read Lev. 16:29-34 as a group
