The Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16) is a remarkable picture and foreshadowing of the gospel!

When we wanted to act it out and talk through it with our family, this is what we used.


Scene 1: Read Leviticus 10:1-2

Characters:

  1. Nadab (son of Aaron)
  2. Abihu (son of Aaron)
  3. God

Prep:

  1. Tennis racquets (censors)
  2. Fire and Incense (clothing)

Actions:

  1. Sons put clothing on tennis racquet
  2. Bring to God, but He refuses

Scene 2: Read Lev. 16:1 / Paraphrase Rest of Leviticus 16

Characters:

  1. God (same as before)
  2. Aaron (High Priest)
  3. Man to take goat in wilderness
  4. Man to burn animal remains
  5. Congregation

Prep:

  1. In playroom: Robe, Jacket, Belt, Hat
  2. In living room: 4 stuffed animals: bull, ram, male goat 1, male goat 2

Actions:

  1. Aaron cleans off in bathtub
  2. Puts on robe, jacket, belt, hat
  3. Gets 1 bull from living room and offers it
  4. Goes to people in living room to get 2 male goats + 1 ram
  5. Takes 2 goats in kitchen; flip coin to decide which to kill
  6. Puts incense in “holy of holies”
  7. Takes blood of ram before holy of holies
  8. Takes blood of goat before holy of holies
  9. Puts blood on altar (oven?)
  10. Takes live goat and confesses sins (in living room)
  11. Man takes goat to end of the hall and puts it in the closet
  12. Aaron and man take bath in bathtub
  13. Man takes bull and goat on front porch, then takes bath in bathtub
  14. Read Lev. 16:29-34 as a group
