Transcript of, “Is God Self-Centered?” (from MS Slack)

0:01The question is, is God self centered.

0:05I’ve heard some people ask this question and the answer might surprise you.

0:10I’d say if you’re looking for a quick answer, the answer is yes, but not in the way that we talk about a sin of self centeredness that humans become.

0:22it’s wrong for us to be self centered because the world doesn’t revolve around us.

0:28There’s a lot that others have to contribute like we’re, we’re in our own little, you know, it’s all about us kind of mode.

0:34That’s sin.

0:35That’s, that’s, that’s being bigger in our own eyes than we truly are.

0:39But what if the world actually does revolve around you?

0:43Ie you are a God.

0:45It’s a very different thing.

0:47I think of it like this is the earth sun centered.

0:53you know, or the sun is the sun.

0:55Let’s put the s un being sun centered by having the earth orbit around.

1:02Yeah, that’s it.

1:03That’s the way it works.

1:04And if the earth all of a sudden had this idea, hey, I’m just kind of of making it all about the sun.

1:10I’m gonna go orbit around this or this.

1:12There’d be instant death.

1:14That’s just the way it works.

1:16The Son is what God is using to I’m not an astronomer, so I won’t go on all the details of it.

1:23But you know, that’s part of the way God designed this.

1:26The Son is is necessary.

1:29Well, how much more is God who hold the son who made the son?

1:32It’s you have scriptures like Hebrews one verse three that he holds all things together by the word of His power.

1:38Acts 17.

1:39He says in Him, we move and live and have our being John 11, you know, in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and all things that are made were made through Him.

1:50So everything made, he made no human is like this or Isaiah where it says He holds the, the oceans or the waters, the seas.

1:57I think it says in the or the Hollows of his hand.

2:02Do you do that?

2:03And I just think he holds everything in his hands and we sing a song and my kids know this song, you know, he holds the whole world in his hands.

2:11If you’re in that position, then oh man, we have, we better be God centered.

2:17It really is all about Him because he’s the one he’s the creator of all.

2:20He’s the sustainer of all He’s the holder of all things.

2:24And so In fact, in that analogy of the sun, just think about it in revelation, it says there will no longer be the sun or moon because God himself will be the light source that everything will orbit around.

2:35I think that is even how it started before the sun came.

2:37If you remember in the creation order on day four of the sun and moon were created, but we have evening and morning on day one and day two and day three of Genesis.

2:47So who did, what did everything orbit around?

2:49I think it was God.

2:50I think he gave a temporary light sun, the sun and the moon for this, you know, the season, the time until the restoration of all things.

2:57But we’re, we’re, when the, when we’re totally changed and back to restoration of every how God wants everything to be, we’re gonna see just how much we really do revolve around him and that’s the way he made it again.

3:12It’s no more than saying that we’re, you know, for us to be dependent on the sun or the water or water or oxygen or food, you know, all of a sudden that makes us, you know, the water, the oxygen, the food, the sun, they’re a little bit self absorbed.

3:25No, that’s just how it works.

3:28We, we rely on them.

3:29Well, he’s the creator of all of us.

3:32He’s the one who made all of us in his image.

3:35I mean, everything, everything about this creation, you can get mad if you want.

3:39You’re welcome to you.

3:40You can do that.

3:41It’s just like a pot, you know, a clay, a lump of clay getting mad because the potter did, did it a certain way.

3:45But the fact of the matter is he’s the potter, he’s the creator.

3:48He’s the everything.

3:50And so he is rightly.

3:53So he is self centered if I can say it that way.

4:00And, and wanting us to be more centered around Him.

4:03But even in doing that, you think that it’s amazing that he is a trie God.

4:09And so there’s, you still see even deference within that, you know, Jesus is deferring to the father, the spirit is deferring to the son and there’s a, there’s a I don’t know, there’s a beauty in how it all works together.

4:21And so all that to say, God is not holding it over us in some sinful way of make it about me when it’s not rightfully.

4:30So he’s, he’s actually, he actually could truly, I think be even more forceful to say it really is about me.

4:37But he’s, he’s, he kind of humbly and graciously wants us to come to that conclusion more and more.

4:44And, and he’s wooing us into that because in Him, we live and move and have our being and it says he’s not far from any of us in act 17 So he’s, he is knowable as the center of everything.

4:59But maybe we’d be humble to receive that.
